The Orillia 2020 Ontario Winter Games is supported by the Government of Ontario, through its Games Ontario program. This program delivers or supports multi-sport events, including the Ontario Winter and Summer Games for youth, the Ontario 55+ Summer and Winter Games and the Ontario Parasport Games.

Orillia and the Games

It is with great honour that the City of Orillia will be playing host to the 2020 Ontario Winter Games!

Athletes will compete in 27 sports, centralized throughout Orillia, Barrie, Oro-Medonte, Rama and Severn over the four day competition taking place on February 27 to March 1, 2020. This will allow participants and spectators to cheer on various sports! Orillia and area is ready to welcome 3,500 athletes, coaches, officials and dignitaries. For the first time ever, the Games are projected to be at capacity. With the games having a smaller footprint and the additional participants, it is estimated that most of the $5 million dollars in economic impact will be concentrated with the 5 communities hosting the Games.

The Orillia 2020 Ontario Winter Games will attract not only the many participants, but an additional 5,000 spectators from all over Ontario. These Games are a great opportunity to showcase your community to people visiting from across Ontario and promote local tourism and community attractions for visitors.

Orillia has a rich sport history, both as participants and as event planners. Orillia was chosen as host due to its premier sport venues, engaged community with outstanding civic pride and willingness to work with all levels of government.

Be on the lookout for several public celebrations, cultural and promotional activities to support the Games

Meet PachiPachi (Games' mascot)

PACHI is head cheerleader of Games Ontario events, all of which showcase Ontario athletes competing in multiple sports.  These include the Ontario Summer Games and the Ontario Winter Games, the Ontario 55+ Summer Games and the Ontario 55+ Winter Games and the Ontario ParaSport Games. His white hat and wristbands feature the Games Ontario logo, modelled on the iconic Ontario trillium and highlighted with coloured ripples of red, green, and blue:

  • Red represents "inspiration"
  • Green represents "opportunity"
  • Blue represents "community"

And, Pachi's distinctive quills match the logo.
